Ashcroft RCMP responded to 83 calls for service in Ashcroft, Cache Creek, and the surrounding area from March 24 to April 13, 2018.
Office staffing changes
A reminder that due to staffing changes within the Administrative Support area of operations, the Ashcroft RCMP detachment will be adjusting its office hours beginning on April 23, 2018. As of that date, the office hours will be Tuesday to Thursday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., until further notice. At this time it is not known how long this interruption in service will continue.
Due to the change in hours, delays in administrative services—such as Criminal Record Checks—can be expected. The public are reminded that there is an “after hours” phone number (250-453-2216) that will connect you to a police dispatch system if you require a police officer for a non-emergency. Call 9-1-1 for emergencies.
As always, Ashcroft RCMP appreciate the support of the community during this period of transition.
Abandoned 9-1-1 calls
Within the past two weeks there have been nine abandoned 9-1-1 calls or false alarms. The calls were from cellular telephones, and were likely pocket dials. Please be mindful with the new touch screens that if phones are not turned off properly you could be making calls without knowing, and police will investigate/attend to these types of calls to ensure that no emergency exists, or to deal with an actual emergency if located.
Car recovered from lake
On April 9 a vehicle was retrieved from Tsotin Lake. The vehicle was first reported in the lake in November 2017, but it could not be retrieved until the spring. The Ministry of Environment has been advised due to fuel and oil concerns in a fish-bearing lake.
Drugs destroyed
On April 10, found property was located in the area of Cache Creek between the Chevron and Kal Tire. The box contained illicit drugs, including marihuana, cocaine, and psiocybin (mushrooms), and was seized for destruction.
Cannabis not legal yet
On April 10 a road check was being conducted on Highway 97 in Cache Creek. As a result of the traffic stops, a seizure of 30 grams of marihuana was affected, as the driver thought it was now legal to possess marihuana. This is not, in fact, the case.
CP Rail vehicles damaged
On April 10 two CP Rail vehicles were broken into while parked at a motel in Cache Creek. The vehicles had the windows smashed, but nothing was taken. The incident has been reported as mischief, damage to property.
Excavator stolen
On April 13 at 7 a.m., a John Deere 75D black-and-yellow excavator was noted as stolen from the Wastech Transfer Station area. The excavator was likely loaded onto a flat-deck trailer and taken from the area overnight. A blue Chevrolet pick-up truck that had been stolen out of Savona on April 12 was recovered at the Wastech site.
