Reports have been received from Lytton that a member of the RCMP was subjected to a number of assaults on Saturday, September 1.

Sgt. Curtis Davis, commander of the Lytton RCMP detachment, says that between the hours of 11 a.m. and noon and 1 and 1:30 p.m. on that date several dozen people—many of whom are believed to be residents of Lytton—lined up to throw things in his general direction while he sat innocently in a “dunk tank” full of water during the Lytton River Festival.

The end result was that Sgt. Davis found himself “dunked” more than two dozen times over the course of the one-and-a-half hours.

Adding insult to injury was the temperature of the water in the tank. Davis—who describes the water as “damn cold”—attempted to warm the tank up by pouring a kettle of hot water into it prior to 11 a.m., but it had little effect on the overall temperature.

Sgt. Davis admits to some culpability in the affair. “I was egging people on, and there may have been some trash talk.”

Video recordings of those proceedings are currently under a publication ban, and cannot be released. However, a few pictures have been leaked to social media.

Davis has described the event as “A whole lot of fun.” As of the time of going to press, he had no intention of pressing charges.
