On June 8, eight ladies attended our last meeting before the summer break. Past president Reta Robertson chaired the meeting and welcomed everyone.

We repeated the UCW prayer together, and Jacklin Desrosiers led the devotional with a reading from the booklet “More Precious than Gold” by M. Basilea Schlink. The Bible reading was from Proverbs 3:5: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart.” She closed with a prayer from the Daily Book of Common Prayer.

During “Old Business” we evaluated the “This and That” bake and craft sale that was held in May. We were very pleased with how successful the sale was, and want to thank everyone who donated to it, and all those who came and supported us with baking and with monetary donations. It was also noted that the church service led by the United Church Women on May 28 went well.

Correspondence was next, and four pieces were dealt with, the first being a newsletter from Carmen Salacsacan about her missionary work. There was a copy of Perspectives magazine, a letter from the United Church of Canada with information about the UCW’s work, and an update and news from the Naramata Society Centre board via email.

Reports were given, and treasurer Colleen Mierau handed out her written report. Sunshine lady Hilda Drinkwater read her report, and Phyllis Gray (publicity) gave a verbal report. Hilda also reported for archives, and Phyllis for outreach.

Many Campbell’s labels were turned in, as well as many used stamps. Any labels with “Campbell’s” and the bar code intact are accepted. Thank you to all who save these for us, as they are passed on to the Christian school in Kamloops to help in Christian work where it is needed.

Reta reported that the United Church will be hosting Soup’s On on July 21 at the Anglican Church hall, and we then paused for refreshments and fellowship.

New business brought us back together. We will be making a donation towards the “Our Daily Bread” booklets we receive. Because we are fewer in number, and all getting older, we discussed the future of our Zion United Church Women’s group, and will carry on as best we can.

We are planning another bake sale at the Ashcroft post office on August 24, starting at 9:30 a.m. Please watch for posters, and in the Coming Events section in The Journal.

Our next meeting will be on September 3 at 1:30 p.m. (please note the new time).

Reta thanked everyone for our trust in her as president and past president these many years, as she is stepping down from these jobs. We have appreciated her leadership, and her dedication to the United Church Women. We closed with the UCW benediction.

We wish everyone a very safe and happy summer.
