Seven members gathered together for our April 4 meeting in the United Church hall. President Shirley Dobson welcomed everyone, and we repeated the United Church Women purpose. Joyce Freeman led the devotional, from the book There is a Season by Betty Radford Turcott.

The theme was “Surprised by joy”, and advised us to keep the Lord always before us, and to be aware of the presence of God in our lives. The scripture was Psalm 16: 5-11, and Joyce closed with a prayer.

The agenda and minutes were adopted, and additions were made. Business was attended to, and it was noted that the United Church Women would lead the worship service at Zion United on May 28.

Correspondence was next, and the first piece was a poster from the Vancouver School of Theology about their programs and events for the summer. We also received a poster from the B.C. conference of the United Church Women about the AGM on April 27 in Maple Ridge. Reta Robertson read a newsletter from Carmen Salacascan, the missionary in Mexico who we help support.

Reports were next, and treasurer Colleen Mierau handed out her written report, which was accepted as written.

Verbal reports were given by Hilda Drinkwater for the sunshine fund and Phyllis Gray for publicity and outreach. Reta Robertson added more for outreach by reminding everyone that the United Church will host Soup’s On on Friday, April 21 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the United Church hall because of the art show in the Anglican Church hall beginning on the evening of April 21.

There was a pause for refreshments and fellowship, and no new business.

The next meeting will be on May 2 at 2 p.m. in the United Church hall, and devotional and refreshment people were noted for that meeting.

We stood and repeated the United Church Women benediction to close the meeting. We would welcome any ladies who are interested in our work to join us, or come as a visitor.
