The Maple Keys will perform at this year’s first Music in the Park on Wednesday, June 14.

The Winding Rivers Arts and Performance Society’s (WRAPS) annual Music in the Park series has been a staple of Ashcroft summers for the last six years; but in this, its seventh annual season, the organization is making some changes and expanding the scope of the event.

In order to make the concerts more family and community inclusive, the series is now called Music (and Magic) in the Park. Children’s entertainers will be on hand to entertain the younger set beginning at 5 p.m., with two live music performances geared towards adults following. Local service groups and businesses will also be on hand to provide food and beverages, so that attendees can make an evening of it and take a break from preparing (and cleaning up) dinner.

The concerts will run every second Wednesday of June, July, and August (with one exception) beginning on Wednesday, June 14. The action takes place at the gazebo in the Heritage Park on Railway, with the children’s show from 5 to 6 p.m.; the first live music show (a local musician) from 6:15 to 6:45 p.m.; and the headliner music show from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Vendors will be on-site by 4:30 p.m.

The exception to the above is the show that would have fallen on Wednesday, July 26. It has been moved to Monday, July 24 and will be held at the Ashcroft pool park in support of the Elizabeth Fry Society “Music and Movie Night” fundraiser taking place that evening.

The show on June 14 features Trixie the Clown and Mr. Brown Knows in the children’s show starting at 5 p.m.; local singer-songwriter Nadine Davenport at 6:15; and the Maple Keys, a folk/country duo from Vernon, at 7 p.m.

All Music (and Magic) in the Park concerts are by donation. For more information, visit the WRAPS website at www.windingriversarts.ca.
