Shirley Curnow

CURNOW – Shirley Louise. Born September 21, 1930, passed away peacefully October 10, 2006 after a short battle with cancer. Predeceased by her loving partner Henry (Hank) Carpenter, she will be lovingly remembered by sisters Joyce Walkem of Spences Bridge and Muriel Dennison of Kamloops, and brothers Ron (Mary) Curnow of Spences Bridge and Les (Bridgette) Curnow of Merritt as well as family and friends. Shirley grew up around Merritt and Spences bridge before joining the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1955 where she eventually met Hank. She served throughout Canada and in France before returning to Mt Lolo base and retiring from the RCAF in 1968 with the rank of Sergeant. Shirley and Hank operated the Sportsman Motel in Spences Bridge for years before retiring. An avid reader, flower gardener, and Scrabble player Shirley’s smile and insight into the world affairs will be greatly missed. As per her wishes she will be cremated and there will be an informal Celebration of her life on Oct. 21, 2006 at Spences Bridge at 11am to 1 pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in her memory.
