Dear Editor,

Ashcroft Fire Rescue chief Josh White advised that the fire crew were on Ashcroft native land taking part in a controlled burn recently.

That was good to know on Facebook. The band has been doing controlled burns for generations. I just wish our provincial government Forestry people had been doing the same throughout the province.

I recall rancher Jim Baker at Loon Lake telling me the forests in his ranch area needed controlled burning. After generations of neglect, we’re spending billions controlling fires after they happen. Isn’t it about time for our government to work with First Nations people to see how it’s done?
