2017 will be an exciting year across Canada, as cities, provinces, towns, and people celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday. Festivities will vary, but the excitement and pride will be evident everywhere.

Ashcroft Communities in Bloom (CiB) began their preparations in the fall of 2016, and planted hundreds of tulip bulbs. The red and white tulips will kick off 2017 with a beautiful show of Canada’s colours. Tulips were planted around the Legion’s cenotaph, and also in a raised garden bed in front of the Ashcroft-Cache Creek Journal office on 4th Street, and we are anxiously awaiting the show of colour!

In May 2017 CiB members, along with assistance from community residents, will plant the many barrels in the downtown core, the planters surrounding the historic Ashcroft fire hall at the north end of Railway Avenue, and planters in front of the Ashcroft Community Hall with red and white flowering geraniums. This will carry the patriotic red and white colours throughout the village, and really show our pride.

Communities in Bloom, with blessings from the Village of Ashcroft, will be contributing another glass mosaic for our village. The mosaic will showcase the new Canada 150 symbol, and will be created and assembled by Andrea Walker and Patricia Denis, who also completed the three glass mosaics that were installed in the Heritage Park on Railway in 2016 to commemorate Ashcroft Communities in Bloom’s 10th anniversary.

We hope that Communities in Bloom will be a catalyst to our residents, and that they too will join in the excitement of Canada’s 150th.
