Thank you for support

Ashcroft RCMP would like to acknowledge the wildfire response over the past few weeks, and the support received from all our local communities and partners. We have all experienced the disruption, and have risen to show support for, and appreciate, what we have in our detachment’s area.

As we move into the phase of finding our new “normal” as a community, please know the Ashcroft RCMP is here to continue our support and services. A special thank you to our fellow first responders: BC Ambulance, BC Wildfire Service, the Ashcroft and Cache Creek Volunteer Fire Departments, and our fellow RCMP who are continuing to assist with the safety and security of all the areas touched by the wildfire. Thank you to everyone.

Police responded to 39 calls for service the week of August 11 to 18.

Highway 1 rollover

On August 11, a single vehicle rollover occurred on Highway 1 in the Walhachin area. Two occupants walked out of the crash with minor injuries.

Riding the rails

On August 12, CN Rail Police reported two persons riding a train car illegally. They were removed in Ashcroft. This is an offence, and both parties could be fined for this dangerous practice and for trespass.

Highway 1 crash

On August 15 there was a single vehicle crash on Highway 1 in the Walhachin area. The driver over-corrected when drifting onto the shoulder of the highway, causing the vehicle to crash into the ditch. Speed may have been an issue. There were no injuries.

Unlicenced driver

During a traffic stop on August 16, Ashcroft RCMP identified a female driver who failed to produce a driver’s licence and was an unlicensed driver. The vehicle was impounded.

Drugs were also located in the vehicle, and the driver was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and released on a Promise to Appear in court, with a recommendation for the Provincial Crown Counsel to approve charges.

Assault with a weapon

On August 16, police responded to a disturbance in Cache Creek that resulted in police arresting two males and recommending charges for both for assault with a weapon.
