Bean Supper plans finalized

March 14 at Zion United Church

Our U.C.W. March meeting was held on Wednesday, March 2 instead of the first Tuesday because some of us were involved with helping to set up for the Landmines Foundation dinner on Tuesday. President Lynn Lancaster welcomed all.We met at 1 pm to plan for the events coming up in March. Ten of us answered the roll call. The plans for our 65th Bean Supper were finalized and sorted out. We have many friends in the community who are helping us with this and we are so grateful. Thank you.We evaluated our annual Friendship Tea and made a couple of changes for next year.World Day of Prayer programs were handed out to those present and readers noted. We are hosting it this year. This service was written by the women of Chile. The correspondence was read next. We received a thank you for a donation which was made to 1st United’s Street Program in Vancouver and a thank you from Action International which we helped to support with their work. The business part of the meeting was then dealt with and reports given. Our Sunshine Lady, Dixie Sydia, sent out Valentines and Birthday greetings to those having a birthday. Reta reported for Outreach that she had received many Campbell soup labels and stamps to be passed on to help in Christian work in other places. Please note that only Campbell soup labels are used for this work - we can’t use other products’ labels. Thank you to those who keep these coming in! On March 11 we will be hosting Soups On at the Anglican church hall.At this time we had our coffee and refreshment break.New business was then brought up. We will host a Come and Go Tea for a member and her husband’s 60th anniversary in May. Plans to be made later. For our April meeting, we will each bring three Easter cards for the residents of Jackson House to use. Some time in the summer when Zion United holds a yard sale, we will have a bake sale in connection with it. Watch for posters and date in The Journal’s coming events. The UCW-BC Conference will be held in Vernon Trinity United, April 28-30. Reta will be attending. The meeting adjourned and then because of the time change of the meeting, we closed with the devotional led by Joyce Freeman. She used Betty Radford Turcott’s book There is a Season. A prayer was read and the Scripture was from Ecclesiastes, chapter 3. The theme of the devotional was There is a Time. Rhythms of Life are part of us - seasons change and parts of our lives change. Let us be aware of God in all seasons. Our next meeting is April 5 at 2 pm. Members, don’t forget the Easter cards. Any and all interested ladies are most welcome to join us or come as a visitor. See you all at the Bean Supper on March 14 at Zion United Church Hall. First sitting is 5-6 pm ad second sitting is 6-7 pm. The posters are out.
