Is the Mona Lisa smiling because she knows how much fun 'Brushes and Booze 3' is going to be?

The third “Brushes and Booze” event takes place at the Ashcroft HUB next weekend, with would-be artists having two opportunities to create their own paintings: there are sessions on Friday, March 3 and Saturday, March 4, both running from 6:30 to 10 p.m.

No painting experience is necessary, and all supplies, as well as the instruction from artist Jo Petty, are included in the ticket price of $40. Each ticket also gets participants a complimentary drink and snacks, as well as access to the fruit bar. The theme of this event is “Canned Tropics”, so drinks on offer will include Coronas, coolers, and mai-tais. Those who do not drink will receive a free entry in the prize draw in lieu of a beverage (the event is an adults-only one).

Organizer Kat Chatten says that while the previous events have not sold out, they’re getting closer to achieving that. “We have one ticket left for Friday, and only six or seven left for Saturday,” she says. If demand increases, she would be happy to add a third session, possibly during the day, to the event, which she aims to hold every three months.

She notes that 80 per cent of those who have signed up for the third event have been to a previous one. “Like anything in this area, the first event is always hard, but if you keep doing it, it gets easier. Tickets have sold very fast for this one.”

She said that similar events have been popular elsewhere, and the Lions were looking for an event they could put on that was new to the area, as well as different and exciting (the Ashcroft and District Lions Club receives $5 from each ticket sold). “We’re doing painting for now, but would like to expand to include other crafts,” says Chatten. “We’re looking for any artisan who is willing to teach. I do all the work; they just have to show up and teach.”

Chatten says that she really likes using the HUB as a place to hold the event. “It’s a great venue, and I love to support it.”
