When I was supposed to be at the business meeting on February 16, I was unfortunately in the airport in Montreal, having missed a flight from Toronto much earlier in the day. All’s well that ends well, though, and we arrived home safely around 9.30 that evening, tired but glad to be home. I’m glad, too, that we have an excellent secretary who has all the facts at her fingertips and has given me a copy of the minutes to bring me up to date.
The attendance at the meeting was up from last month’s low to 14 members—yay!—and all areas of our activities are doing pretty well except bingo. There has been a drop in the numbers attending Saturday bingo, but all of us who attend have some light-hearted fun, and sometimes we even win! We have some very accommodating callers who come to call when asked, and who jolly us along. Many thanks to all of you!
Upcoming events include a bus trip to Anglemont’s Pig and Whistle production, which is always much enjoyed by our members. Suggested choices of dates are April 17 or 30 or May 3, as these are dates when the matinees are playing and the time suits us. Are you interested? Will there be enough of us to fill a bus? Let us know your preference ASAP; there is not much time left!
Also coming up is a Carpet Bowls Tournament on April 5 at the Cache Creek Community Hall, with set-up on April 4. Another point of interest: the Senior Games will be held in Vernon this year, and the first meeting was held on February 16. As well, our annual Strawberry Tea will be held on Saturday, April 29, and at this time it seems there will be no sale of raffle tickets.
Kathy is back, almost completely well, and Nola keeps in touch: email is wonderful! She is settling in nicely in her new abode and keeping herself well occupied. Just a small footnote: four of our members are now sharing the work Nola did all on her own!
The question of access for some of our less able members continues to niggle, as we find that we need to have individual buzzers that respond to our receiver in the hall since it seems that batteries get removed from the buzzer outside the door at the top of the ramp. An indoor chair lift on the stair from the front door would be so much better!
Spring is just around the corner, and we hope the milder weather and sunshine will tempt more members to turn out for fun and games and a cup of tea or coffee with tasty treats. Come and visit. You never know: you might enjoy yourself, and you will certainly be most welcome!
