With the approach of summer, Ashcroft Communities in Bloom members are taking a bit of a breather from their spring activities and getting ready for the judges’ visit in July. Our community is looking great, thanks to residents and businesses who take the time to keep their properties neat and tidy. The flower barrels throughout the village are bursting with bright and colourful blooms, thanks to the businesses who take care of them.

Each year,we strive to be able to show the judges how our community is “blooming” or thriving. This year we will be so proud to show the judges the wonderful additions to our Chinese cemetery, introduce them to the HUB, show them the new mosaics around town, tell them about the new playground equipment for the pool park, and tell them about the plans for a community garden. Our community is indeed “blooming” in many ways.

This year will mark the 10th anniversary of Ashcroft’s participation in the Communities in Bloom program. Our CiB members felt they would like to commemorate this by installing a piece of public art in the Heritage Park on Railway Avenue. Andrea Walker and Patricia Denis, with assistance from Marina Papais, have designed and created three beautiful large mosaic pieces. The pieces will be housed in a roofed structure and featured in a new garden bed in the Heritage Park.

Communities in Bloom will be hosting a public celebration at 7 p.m. in the Heritage Park on Monday, July 18 in conjunction with our judges’ visit. We invite all residents to come to the park and enjoy a piece of anniversary cake and some refreshments, see the new mosaic structure, and meet and greet our judges.
