Eat away at landmines and enjoy a roast beef and Yorkshire Pudding dinner in the Ashcroft Legion at the same time.
Even though wars end, the landmines used stay in the ground. They do not know the difference between war and peace, nor do they know the difference between the footsteps of a soldier or the footsteps of a child. Landmines do not wear out. They are either removed safely or they explode.
Somewhere in the world someone is killed or mutilated by a landmine every 28 minutes. Seventy-six per cent of the victims of landmines are civilians and approximately 34 per cent of those are children.
On March 1, the Ashcroft Royal Canadian Legion Branch 113, Ashcroft-Cache Creek Rotary and Zion United Church will host this fundraising dinner to support The Canadian Landmine Foundation’s effort to rid the world of landmines. This event is non-alcoholic. Doors open at 5 pm and the dinner begins at 6 pm.
Information and pledge cards will be available for those who wish to make a further donation. A donation jar will be available, and proceeds raised will go toward the Canine De-mine program.
Tickets will go on sale Feb. 1 in Ashcroft at the Employment Centre, Legion, and Sears/Ashcroft Work Wear. For more information please call Shirley at 453-9202 or Kathey at 453-2434. Watch for posters.
