Mollie Lane and Tanner Charles of Arrow Transporation were in Ashcroft last week to present a cheque for $5,435 to Yoriko Susanj, executive director of the South Cariboo Elizabeth Fry Society (SCEFS), for their annual Toys for Joys campaign. The money was raised at Arrow’s Christmas party on Nov. 24 via a 50/50 draw, with Arrow matching the 50/50 amount.

Charles says that every year Arrow picks an organization in the area to donate to at Christmas. Susanj had no idea how much the donation was for until she received the cheque, and was overwhelmed to discover the amount.

The society held its fourth annual Toys for Joys pancake breakfast on Nov. 25. There were 52 breakfasts served at the event, and 45 toys and gifts were received, as well as $376.15 in cash donations.

The Toys for Joys program provides toys and Christmas gifts to children aged 0 to 18 who might not otherwise have a very merry Christmas in the region served by SCEFS (Ashcroft, Cache Creek, Clinton, Spences Bridge, the Ashcroft Band, and the Bonaparte Band).
