UPDATE: Conservatives win in Mission-Matsqui-Fraser Canyon and Abbotsford ridings

Veteran MP Ed Fast and first-timer Brad Vis declared winners

The Conservative candidates in the ridings of Abbotsford and Mission-Matsqui-Fraser Canyon (MMFC) were both declared winners before 8:45 p.m. on Monday night.

Veteran MP Ed Fast (Abbotsford) and first-timer Brad Vis (MMFC) both took dominant early leads and retained them.

Fast showed up at his election-night headquarters at the Sandman Inn in Abbotsford at about 8:45 p.m.

Many of his supporters had worked on his campaign, and they were closely watching the poll results at they came in. They applauded as Conservative leader Andrew Scheer was declared the winner in his own riding, Regina-Qu’Appelle, and again as Fast was again victorious.

“I am so grateful that the people of Abbotsford have given me their unwavering support for so many years,” Fast told the crowd upon his arrival after his victory.

Vis is not expected to show up at his location – Matsqui Hall – until about 9:30 p.m. At 8 p.m., supporters were setting up the stage, preparing for his arrival, just as the initial polls results started to come in. They showed Vis jumping to an early lead, with six polls reporting.
