Evacuation order issued in response to Moose Valley Fire

The evacuation order will be expedited by RCMP and other groups

The Cariboo Regional District has issued an evacuation order for residents in the path of the Moose Valley Fire.

The evacuation order was issued at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday evening for residents along Helena Lake Road and includes Tad Lake, Big Lake, Mirage Lake and McKinlay Lake. The evacuation area borders on Lillypad Lake and Abel Lake. No prior alert was issued before the order came down.

"Due to immediate danger, members of the RCMP or other groups will be expediting the evacuation order," the CRD said in their release announcing the order. "The evacuation route is along Highway 97 into 100 Mile House."

Evacuees are asked to go to the 100 Mile House Community Hall at 385 Birch Avenue to register with the Emergency Support Service Reception Centre.

The Moose Valley Fire is currently listed at 155 hectares in size and is currently being fought by fire crews, aviation assets and heavy machinery. The fire remains out of control.

A wider evacuation alert has also been put into place for several other lakes near the fire including Enterprise Lake, Goose Lake, Hale Lake, Lilypad Pad Lake and Abel Lake. The alert expands to the southern shores of Lac La Hache but currently bypasses most of the 108 Mile Ranch and 103 Mile area.

The CRD asks residents within this area to be prepared to evacuate their residences if needed. As much prior warning will be given as possible.
