A thunderstorm that rolled through the Cariboo on the evening of Monday, June 22 has ignited several new wildfires.
While the storm brought scattered showers of rain, it also brought several strikes of lightning that have ignited at least 10 wildfires. The majority are concentrated in the Lac La Hache area including fires C41433, C41431, C41421 all listed as out of control and at around 0.009 hectares. Fire C41431 located on the south of Lac La Hache, near Lac La Hache Station Road, is listed as under control.
Close to 100 Mile House fire C41445 is estimated to be 0.009 hectares and is located west of Exeter Station Road near Exeter Lake. South of Williams Lake Fire C21437 is listed at 0.009 hectares and is burning near South Lakeside.
North of Mahood Lake, fire C41350 northwest of Pendelton Lake remains out of control at 70 hectares in size while C41391 east of Hidden Lake remains at 60 hectares in size.
Fire C41440 is located near Moose Valley Park while fire C41439 is located behind the 108 Mile Ranch east of Lillypad Lake, both out of control. Three wildfires have been ignited along the Highway 24 corridor in the Interlakes including C41417 west of Lac De Roches, C41425 near Bridge Lake and C41434 north of Wavey Lake.
South of Green Lake fire C41438 is burning at three hectares four kilometres northwest of Sodium Lake. Fire C41399 east of Disputed Lakes, first discovered early Monday, has been brought under control.
At this time BC Wildfire Service has not listed what assets they have deployed to these fires. As of Tuesday, July 23 at 8:30 a.m. BC Wildfire is responding to 47 wildfires, 31 of which are listed as out of control.
