The 60 Minute Kids' Club Winter Challenge kicked itself off in schools around B.C. and Canada on Wednesday, and will run from Jan. 15 to March 15, 2014.
The 60 MKC aims to get "kids fit for the future" and encourages an active, healthy lifestyle for participating students and parents (website).
"Participation in this program is all about having fun and getting active," the program's website reads, and it encourages what it calls a "5-2-1-0" guideline:
- Enjoy 5 or more vegetables and fruits every day
- No more than 2 hours of screen time a day
- At least 1 hour of activity each day
- 0 sugar or sweetened drinks
*Black Press is a provincial sponsor of the 60 Minute Kids' Club for 2014.
60 MKC's website and its online tools provide a number of 'health trackers' for its participants, from a goal setting/tracking page to a 'fruits and vegetables tracker' to a 'mental health tracker'.
The MKC's 'Social Hub' also brings all of their social networks and user interactions into one screen. A hub, if you will.
