Annual Terry Fox Run taking place in Ashcroft on Sept. 15

Participants can walk, run, or ride up to 10 kilometres, with funds raised going to support cancer research

Terry Fox Run

Don’t forget the annual Terry Fox Run in Ashcroft, which starts from the Ashcroft HUB at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 15. Participants can run, walk, or ride three different routes up to 10km in length, with money raised going to support cancer research. More than $850 million has been raised by Terry Fox Runs, which started in 1981 and now take place in more than 650 communities across Canada, as well as in schools and in other countries.

Bingo cancelled

The Royal Purple bingo that was scheduled to take place at the Cache Creek Community Hall on Sept. 15 has been cancelled due to a lack of volunteers.

If you are able to volunteer a few hours here and there, and are interested in helping out at events in the future to help Royal Purple fundraise for the community, call Lil Munro (250-457-6730) or Marvene Layte (250-612-2031).

Child Care resource centre opening

A new Child Care Resources and Referrals office is opening in Ashcroft, and will be holding an open house on Tuesday, Sept. 17 from 10 a.m. to noon at its office at the Ashcroft HUB (711 Hill Street).

The centre connects families and care providers by offering child care and community resource services, referrals, Affordable Child Care Benefits support, and government initiatives. Programs enhance the availability and accessibility of a range of child care options and services.

Light refreshments and snacks will be served, and there will be an opportunity to meet CCRR consultant Dana Foster and her team and learn more about the services offered.

Ashcroft community barbecue

The Village of Ashcroft invites all residents to come to a free community barbecue, taking place at the Ashcroft fire hall (302 Railway Avenue) from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5. There will be bouncy castles for the kids, and everyone can enjoy a barbecue with friends and neighbours and get a tour of the newly-renovated fire hall.

Cache Creek public meeting

The Village of Cache Creek is holding a public hearing to discuss the future of the Cache Creek pool. This will be an opportunity for residents to share their thoughts on whether the pool should be rehabilitated or permanently close.

The meeting will take place at 6 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 7 at the Cache Creek Community Hall. If you cannot attend, you can still have your say by submitting written comments online at cachecreek.ca/pool. Submissions must be received by noon on Oct. 7.

Clinton Community Forest tour

The Clinton Community Forest is holding a fall field tour on Saturday, Oct. 26 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The tour departs from the Clinton village office at 10:15 a.m., and participants will be able to tour recent operations and discuss all aspects of the community forest. Transportation and lunch are included, and attendees should dress for the weather and wear appropriate footwear, as there will be some walking.

HUB Christmas Market

The Ashcroft HUB is now taking vendor bookings for its annual Christmas market, which takes place on Saturday, Dec. 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The cost is $15 per spot.

MK Ballet

MK Ballet in Ashcroft is now taking registrations for the 2024–25 dance season, offering mini ballet (for those aged 2 and up) on Wednesdays; pre-ballet (ages 3-5), junior ballet (ages 6-12), and teen ballet (13+) on Wednesdays and Fridays, and adult ballet (18+) on Saturdays.

Ashcroft Academy of Skating

Registration is now open for the Ashcroft Academy of Skating’s 2024–25 season. The Academy offers a variety of lesson types and sessions, including Jumps and Spins, Synchro, and Powerskating, for skaters of all ages and abilities.

The season runs from October to March, and it’s hoped that the synchro team will take part in at least one competition. There will also be an ice show on March 1, 2025. For more information, or to register, go to https://bit.ly/3ZjnmWG.

Hospice Society

The Ashcroft and District Hospice Society office at 509 Railway Avenue in Ashcroft is now open every Monday and Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The office has a wide variety of resources to help people deal with grief and loss, and a library of materials that are free to borrow or take. You can also speak with someone, at no charge and in complete confidence.
