Highway 5 delays due to rock slide 10 kilometres south of Barriere

A morning rock slide 10 kilometres south of Barriere covering the northbound lane is being cleared and drivers in both directions should expect delays.

A rock slide about 10 kilometres south of Barriere has blocked part of Highway 5, mainly in the northbound lane on Dec. 9 at approximately 9:30 a.m. and crews are on scene to clear the debris.

Drivers should use caution in both directions until the debris is removed.

Rock slides along this stretch of highway are common especially since this area was damaged by wildfire years before destroying all of the vegetation, trees, and root systems that used to absorb the water.
