Between Dec. 8, 2024 and Jan. 3, 2025, the Lillooet-Lytton RCMP responded to 179 calls for service.
Road safety reminder
There have been numerous motor vehicle collisions over the past several weeks in the Lillooet-Lytton region. Drivers are reminded to drive with care and caution, especially with rapidly changing winter conditions in the region that can make roads treacherous. Slow down, drive to conditions, consult www.drivebc.ca to check on highways in your area, and consider postponing your trip if conditions are bad.
Stolen vehicle recovered
On Dec. 9, a report was received of an unoccupied vehicle (a dark pick-up truck) down an embankment off Lillooet Pioneer Road 40. It was not known how long it had been there, but the person who reported it wanted to let police know in case it had been stolen.
The vehicle was located a few days later, and it was confirmed that it had been stolen several months earlier. However, it was not suitable for forensic identification services due to the length of time it had been there and its exposure to the elements. It was towed out and the owner was advised.
Motor vehicle collision
On Dec. 9, a caller reported a two-vehicle collision on Highway 12 near Alkali Road in Lytton. Lytton RCMP attended and found that there were no injuries. One vehicle did not have active insurance, and the driver was issued a violation ticket for $598 for driving without insurance. A report was completed and sent to ICBC.
Mischief
On Dec. 18, an employee with the Lillooet shelter advised that a woman under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs was causing a disturbance in the shelter. Lillooet RCMP members attended and learned that the woman had left on foot, but she was soon located standing on Main Street, where she was impeding traffic. She was arrested for mischief and for being intoxicated in public and transported to Lillooet cells, and was released from custody without charge when she was sober. Assistance to get her to a detox or treatment centre was arranged and offered to her.
Mental health act
On Dec. 23, a Lillooet restaurant employee reported that a woman had been locked in their washroom for the past two hours and was not responding. Lillooet RCMP members attended, along with the BC Ambulance Service and Lillooet Fire Department. Attempts were made to speak with her, but no response was received, and Lillooet Fire Department members breached the locked door. The woman inside was familiar to police and was apparently having a mental health episode. She was apprehended under the Mental Health Act and transported to hospital for appropriate care.
Shots fired call
On Dec. 31, a caller reported that their neighbour had shot a firearm outside their residence. Lytton RCMP members responded and found the neighbour in the kitchen of his own residence with friends. There were fireworks in the kitchen that were in plain view, and when the homeowner was asked about the loud noise they told the attending members that it had simply been New Year’s Eve fireworks. There were no further concerns, and the original caller was updated.
Impaired driving
On Jan. 2, Lillooet RCMP received a report of a single vehicle rollover on Highway 12 near Lillooet, which was attended by Lillooet RCMP members. The single vehicle was rolled over, and an open beer can was observed in the cup holder of the centre console.
The driver declined medical attention and was spoken to. As he emitted an odour of alcohol, he was arrested for impaired operation of a conveyance. The driver was given a breath demand to blow into an approved screening device, and produced two fail results for alcohol above the legal limit in his system. He was immediately prohibited from driving for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded.
