Jonah Anstett – Ashcroft councillor candidate

Question: How long have you lived in your community?

36 years. Born in Ashcroft. I’m a Lifer!

Question: What is your occupation?

I’m an employee of Ashcroft Terminal

Question: Have you done any volunteer work here? Which group(s)?

17 years with Ashcroft Fire Rescue and served on many committees.

Question: Have you served before in municipal government or on a Board of School Trustees? If yes, where, when, and for how long?

Not in a formal role. However. I have spent the last 1.5 years deciding to put my name forward and familiarizing myself with council by attending all meetings and other civic events.

Question: Which issues are most important to you?

Growth within our community.

Lack of Housing/Rentals is a big issue in our community. If we want to grow our area, we need to not only look into but act on New Development in town. Not just for right now, but for 5 to 10 years from now for the next- generation.

Recycling is another issue that needs to be addressed right away. There is always a Solution; we just need to find the right one.

With change comes new opportunities, let’s open up Ashcroft for the world to see! Tourism – our beautiful lakes and mountains, trails and rivers and amazing weather that’s second to None!

Question: How would you address them?

By working with Village staff to see where they are on New Development and move forward with growth.

Looking into other community Recycling solutions not just locally but ideas from other countries that have had success in combating the recycling problems the world faces today.

Being a new voice will open the doors to new ideas and plans for our community.

Question: Additional comments?

Most importantly, a new opinion and an open mind to see success is within reach; we just have to go for it. It’s time to grow!
