Deb Tuohey - Ashcroft councillor candidate

1. How long have you lived in your community?

I have lived in Ashcroft for 41 years.

During this time, I have had a few occupations. The first was to work at the Jack N Jill Daycare Centre. I had my Early Childhood Certificate and thought I would try out Ashcroft for a year! A few years later, I joined Ashcroft Dental clinic as Office Manager for 20 years.

Always wanting to be an entrepreneur, I opened The Cannery Gift Shop, The Painted Ladies Gift Shop and finally purchased The Ashcroft Bakery in 2001.

After a short retirement of 18 months, I have recently returned to baking!

2: What is your occupation?

Owner of The Ashcroft Bakery & Coffee Shop

3. Have you done any volunteer work here? Which group(s)?

Currently, I am with Communities In Bloom and sat on the OCP (official community plan) committee. Last year, I helped develop the local fan out plan for the community as part of the ‘Ashcroft moving forward’ group.

In the past, I have been with the local Chamber of Commerce, Rodeo Parade Committee and Wellness Festival.

4. Have you served before in municipal government or on a Board of School Trustees? If yes, where, when, and for how long?

First time running for political office of any type.

5. Which issues are most important to you?

All issues are important to me if they are a concern to the community! Mostly, I want to have better communication between council and the public — involve people more.

6. How would you address them?

Listening, being seen, being involved with local groups.
