100 Mile House RCMP responded to several separate incidents involving impaired driving last week.

Sgt. Brian Lamb said these were some of the 70 calls for service the RCMP responded to last week. The first incident occurred on Tuesday, Jan. 14 when BC Highway Patrol stopped a vehicle near Lac La Hache.

After speaking with the driver Lamb said evidence of drug impairment was determined with officers issuing them a 24 hour suspension from driving.

The next day officers responded to two more incidents of impaired driving. First, officers stopped a vehicle after it was observed leaving a business at a high rate of speed. Officers said they conducted a breath test with an approved screening device which detected alcohol in the driver's body.

"As the driver was a Class 7 with a restriction of zero blood alcohol content, he was issued a 12-hour driving prohibition from driving and served a violation ticket for driving contrary to license restrictions," Lamb said.

Later on, officers patrolled along Highway 24 and stopped a vehicle after it was observed leaving an establishment. After checking for sobriety the driver failed a breath test. As a result, this driver was given a 24-hour suspension from driving.

Finally, Lamb said officers suspected alcohol consumption of a driver on Thursday, Jan. 16 after pulling them over for license plate infractions. Officers determined this after speaking to the driver who failed to provide a suitable breath sample for analysis.

As a result, officers impounded the vehicle for 30 days and gave the person an immediate 90-day roadside prohibition from driving.

Taylor Avenue B&E

Lamb said officers responded to reports on Wednesday, Jan. 15 of a business on Taylor Avenue that had been broken into. Food was taken and items within the business were thrown around and damaged. It is believed this incident took place during daylight hours, though Lamb did not provide a date.

Garbage Can Fire

Complaints about a person trying to light a garbage can on fire led to the arrest of a man with outstanding warrants in Kamloops.

Lamb said officers responded to the complaint on Jan. 16 of a person who appeared to be trying to light a garbage can on fire. RCMP conducted patrols of the area and located a suspect who denied being involved.

"Queries were conducted which showed the male had a warrant for his arrest from Kamloops for failing to comply with probation," Lamb said. "The male was arrested and taken into custody."

Lamb said the male has since been released to attend court in Kamloops at a later date.

Female arrested in connection to B&E

On Sunday, Jan. 19 100 Mile House RCMP received reports of break and enter to a business located on Park Drive.

Officers attended the scene and received descriptions of a vehicle and persons who were suspected of the crime. Not long after Lamb said officers located a vehicle with a similar description.

"The vehicle was stopped and the occupants questioned. Tools consistent with being used as break-in instruments were located in the vehicle and a female occupant was arrested," Lamb said. "Police are continuing the investigation."
