Clemes Hall receives funding from TNRD

Regional district approves up to $80,000 for energy efficient upgrades in the Spences Bridge community hall.

The Thompson-Nicola Regional District recently approved the expenditure of up to $80,000 from the Federal Gas Tax Community Works Fund to go towards energy-efficient upgrades at the Archie Clemes Community Hall in Spences Bridge.

With the funding, the Spences Bridge Community Club (SBCC) will upgrade the hall’s heating equipment, exterior doors, lighting, bathroom fixtures as well as ceiling insulation.

“The money is going to great use as it will make the Community Hall, which is more than 100 years old, more energy efficient, as well as more functional,” said Steven Rice, Electoral Area “I” (Blue Sky Country) director.

The Archie Clemes Community Hall is owned and operated by the SBCC. Under an amendment to the Gas Tax Agreement, buildings and infrastructure owned by non-government organizations can be eligible for funding so long as the NGO abides by the terms and conditions of the Gas Tax agreement.

To date, the Thompson-Nicola Regional District has approved $2.64 million for 63 projects under the Federal Gas Tax Fund, which provides funding in support of municipal infrastructure that contributes to cleaner air, cleaner water and reduced greenhouse gas emissions.
