On May 5 at 8:43 pm Clinton RCMP responded to a complaint of a stolen vehicle.
On arrival, police were told a man posing as a hitchhiker had stolen a vehicle from the driver who stopped to pick him up. In committing the theft, the hitchhiker assaulted and threatened to kill the driver.
The vehicle was a white Dodge pickup with a canopy and had Alberta license plates.
The driver managed to stop the pickup and fled on foot at Mile 59 of Highway 97 at Old Abbey air strip.
The stolen vehicle was seen driving erratically along Hwy 97 until Clinton RCMP stopped the vehicle.
A witness in a passing vehicle stopped to assist the owner of the pickup, but left without speaking to police. Clinton RCMP are requesting assistance from that witness. If you are the driver or know who the driver is, please contact the Clinton RCMP at 250-459-2221
