Impaired driver races into Ashcroft

27 year old Crescent Valley driver tries to avoid Ashcroft checkstop.

It might have been worse as an impaired driver tried to evade a rodeo weekend checkstop by turning around and speeding back into Ashcroft.

On June 18 at 12:57 am police at a roadcheck on Hwy 97C gave chase to the driver of a Toyota 4-Runner who put his vehicle in reverse fled back down the hill.

His vehicle reached a speed of 100 kph in the 50 kph part of the highway as he wove back and forth across lanes and doused his headlights to avoid detection. He turned onto Government St. and police were able to overtake him.

The 27 year old Crescent Valley man blew a Warn on a roadside screening device and was given a three-day driving prohibition and his vehicle was impounded.He was also charged with dangerous driving and released on a promise to appear in court.
