Lytton RCMP responded to 41 calls for service during the period January 12 to 25.

Break and enter

A break and enter at a home in Lytton is an unusual occurrence. RCMP in Dawson Creek alerted Lytton RCMP that a resident here may have been the victim of a B&E.

The Dawson Creek RCMP executed a search warrant on a motel room and found personal property and identification belonging to a Lytton resident. This led police to check the Lytton property and confirm that a window had been smashed to gain entry.

Our Forensic Identification Section attended from Kamloops. Two suspects from the Lower Mainland are facing multiple charges, and there will be others to come.

Car break-ins

Also related to the B&E, two cars was broken into overnight on January 12. A wallet and passport were stolen, and recovered in the Dawson Creek motel room. There are still some items missing, and we continue to work with our partners in the North.

Traffic incidents

We had a couple of significant incidents on the Trans-Canada recently. A rockslide on January 18 limited traffic for a couple of days. The driver of a tractor-trailer reported that he was going 80 km/h when he saw the rocks start to move, and managed to slow to 70 before the collision.

We were very lucky with this crash. The driver, a 45-year-old Langley man, was able to walk away from the crash with only a bruised arm. Working with the Ashcroft RCMP, we were able to get the backed-up traffic turned around and re-routed.

On January 22, just before 4 a.m., we responded to a tractor-trailer that had lost control on ice near Jade Springs. The tractor was over the guard rail, suspended over the CP rail line. Mario’s Towing was able to pull the vehicle back and have the rail line open by 7:20 a.m., and the highway re-opened shortly afterwards.
