B.C. NDP has tapped Francyne Joe as their candidate for Fraser-Nicola.

The B.C. NDP has announced Francyne Joe will be running in the Fraser-Nicola riding for the 2023 election.

Joe works in emergency management and has 20 years of advocacy experience, particularly fighting against violence toward Indigenous women.

In a statement released earlier this week, Joe said the NDP government took huge strides forward by passing the U.N. Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), decrying B.C. Conservative leader John Rustad for fighting against UNDRIP.

"From housing to healthcare to jobs, the B.C. NDP has taken action for everyone in Fraser-Nicola. John Rustad would move us backward," Joe stated. "We can’t afford the risk."

B.C. Premier David Eby said Joe is an "outstanding advocate for people in her community."

"She has spent her life standing up for justice and ensuring that people have the support they need," Eby stated. "The people of Fraser-Nicola can count on her to be in their corner."

Joe will be running against Conservative candidate Tony Luck, Green Party's Jonah Timms and incumbent MLA Jackie Tegart for B.C. United.

The provincial election is scheduled for Oct. 19.
