Forced off road
March 3 at 9:50 am police received a complaint from a 40 year old Ashcroft woman who’s vehicle had been forced off Barnes Lake Rd. by a logging truck. RCMP contacted the Williams Lake company who advised they would discuss the incident with their driver.
Turning truck hit
March 4 at 10:30 am police attended a two vehicle collision on Hwy 97 at the Bonaparte Reserve after a Jeep YJ tried to pass a Ford F350 making a left turn. No one was inured and no one was charged. The 61 year old Cache Creek woman driving the Jeep told police that she pulled out to pass because the truck was driving slowly and was not signalling a turn. The 57 year old driver of the truck said his lights were burned out. A vehicle check showed that they were working, but were covered in grime and partially covered by the flatbed trailer he was hauling. Both vehicles were damaged but still drivable.
Erratic driving
March 4 at 9:25 pm police noticed an older model Chev pickup driving in a jerky motion away from the River Inn entrance. The followed it across the bridge and onto Government St. where it was travelling in the oncoming lane. The vehicle was stopped and the 53 year old Ashcroft driver Failed a roadside screening device. His pickup was impounded for 30 days and he was given a 90 day driving prohibition.
Ran a stop sign
March 4 at 11:15 pm police observed a car leaving the arena. The 2006 Hyundi drove through a stop sign and made a wide turn onto Brink where it sped away. It was stopped two blocks later and the driver, a 22 year old Cache Creek man, Failed a roadside screening device. His car was impounded for 30 days and he was given a 90 day driving prohibition.
Failed the test
March 5 at 7:49 pm police stopped a truck at a roadcheck on Hwy 97C at Cornwall Rd. The 47 year old Ashcroft man Failed a roadside screening device. His 2003 Chev pickup was impounded for 30 days and he was issued a 90 day driving suspension.Unco-operativeMarch 5 at 9:52 pm police stopped a speeding southbound Toyota Corolla in Cache Creek, travelling 83 kph in the 50 kph zone. Police detected an odour of liquor on the driver’s breath. The 18 year old Kamloops woman denied having a drink. After several attempts at providing a breath sample for the roadside screening device, she was charged with refusal to provide a sample. Her vehicle was impounded for 30 days and she was given a 90 day driving suspension.
Pickup stolen
March 6 at 6:38 am police received a report of a theft of a 1996 diesel Dodge pickup truck from a Cache Creek residence. The gray truck has rust on the sides and a BC license plate 6241 EV.
Lousy neighbours
March 6 at 12:35 pm police received a complaint from a 28 year old Ashcroft man who said he had been assaulted by a former neighbour. The suspect, a 27 year old Cache Creek woman, said she was walking down the street when the man yelled an insult at her from his yard. She shoved him and tried to punch him but missed. Police spoke to the pair and told them to stay away from each other. No charges were laid.
LYTTON
*Correction Notice*
On Feb. 6, Lytton RCMP issued a media release in which several collisions on Hwy 1 north of Spences Bridge were attributed to inadequately maintained roads. The release should have read, “Adverse weather conditions contributed to the collisions.” Lytton RCMP would like to apologize to the employees of Interior Roads for the wording of this release.
Sweet slumbers
Feb. 23 - A concerned citizen reported seeing a drunk male at Memorial Hall during a bake-sale event. Police found the male passed out at a table with his face peacefully resting in a plate of baked goods. He was arrested for public intoxication and lodged in cells.
Angry at everyone
RCMP were called to Big Horn Curl in Spence’s Bridge after a woman observed her intoxicated son in an agitated state threatening to kill everyone including the police. Members attended and spoke with the woman who advised her son had gone to bed. She refused to cooperate with police and did not wish any charges against her child.
Crisis over
Feb. 24 - A woman residing on North Spencer Rd. phoned in a frantic state hysterically screaming that she was going to be killed. Police attended the complainant’s home and found it empty. The woman was later located in the area. She stated her son assaulted her but refused to cooperate any further.
Custody not needed
Feb. 24 - Police arrested a male for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman at his residence last December during a party. He was released on a Promise to Appear with conditions not to consume alcohol. He was later located in the afternoon staggering in front of the Lytton Elementary School. He was brought before a Justice, however was released from custody as he did not have a significant criminal record. Old habitsFeb. 27 - A female reported a disturbance on Susanna Rd. after someone repeatedly knocked on her window. Police located and arrested two intoxicated men in the area, one of whom was released two days earlier by a Justice on a recognizance not to consume alcohol. Conveniently, he was brought before the same Justice who deemed the man unlikely to abide by his condition. He was remanded into custody.
Slippery highways
Feb. 28 - RCMP attended multiple accidents on Hwy 1 north of Spences Bridge. One female driver lost control on icy roads before crashing into a rock face. She was transported to the Kamloops hospital with non life-threatening injuries. A second woman spun her vehicle out nearby and flipped down an embankment. The woman who happened to be several months pregnant, escaped without injury.
Cold comfort
March 1 - Police located two men in Lytton passed out due to heavy alcohol consumption. One man was found on Hwy 12 resting against a snow bank with his legs protruding onto the roadway. A second man was located sleeping under the deck of the Parish Hall. Both were arrested for public intoxication and lodged into police cells where it was safe and warm. They were both charged under the LCLA.
Going nowhere fast
March 2 at 9:30 am, RCMP attended a single vehicle accident on Alkali Rd. where a vehicle had crashed into a tree. Police located the vehicle and male driver who was spinning his tires in a futile effort attempting to free the vehicle from deep snow. The driver showed obvious signs of intoxication but denied having consumed alcohol. He was arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle and returned to the Detachment where he provided two samples of his breath; both were over three times the legal limit. The man will appear in Lillooet Provincial Court in April to answer to impaired driving related charges.
Stick fight
March 2 at approximately 3:30 pm police were called to a residence on the west side of the Fraser River after a report of an assault with a weapon. It seems that one male hit another over the head with a walking stick causing minor injuries. The injured party was treated and released; the suspect was arrested. Alcohol was a factor. The matter is still under investigation.
