Police search for swimmer

RCMP search for man swept away in Thompson near Goldpan Provincial Park.

RCMP conducted a weekend search in the Thompson River for a 41 year old man after he was swept away by the fast flowing water Saturday afternoon.

On Aug. 20 at approximately 2:45 pm, Lytton RCMP received a report that a man had gone missing while swimming in the river approximately 27 km northeast of Lytton. He was swimming with other individuals in the area of Goldpan Provincial Park when he was unable to return to shore and was carried away by the current.

RCMP along with B.C. Conservation and the local rafting companies have conducted a search of the river, with assistance from the RCMP helicopter from Kamloops and the Chilliwack Search and Rescue team.

The man had not been found as of Sunday afternoon, and his name is not being released at this time.
