RCMP investigate internet luring case

Ashcroft RCMP act on a complaint that a local girl may have been the subject of an attempted luring.

On Nov. 18 the Ashcroft Detachment initiated an internet investigation after receiving a complaint from a concerned parent.

The investigation had an officer pose as a 12 year old female who was playing an interactive video game in which photographs were exchanged. The officer engaged in conversations with another unknown player that suggested attempts at luring the “girl” to a face to face meeting. The suspect is not expected to be a local resident.

The matter is still under investigation and may be forwarded to the RCMP’s Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) unit in Vancouver. Parents are reminded to monitor their children’s internet activity and warn them of sharing photos and personal information.
