Two students go on to provincials in Legion competition

During the weeks surrounding Remembrance Day, the Royal Canadian Legion sponsors a Literary and Poster Contest for all of the schools in our districts.

During the weeks surrounding Remembrance Day, the Royal Canadian Legion sponsors a Literary and Poster Contest for all of the schools in our districts.

Entries are first judged by the local Legion Branch and the winners move up to one of 10 Zones - the Thompson Nicola Zone for the local area. Then those winners are passed upwards to the BC/Yukon level and compete provincially.

Finally, the winners of that competition are sent to the National Office to compete with the other winners from the rest of Canada.

The winners of the National competition are invited to attend the Remembrance Day ceremony in Ottawa next year.

The response from all of the local schools was excellent. Cache Creek Elementary School turned in seven entries. Chantal Husa won at the Branch level and at the Zone level. We are hopeful that she will win at the BC/Yukon level and then at the National. Good luck, Chantal.

Ashcroft Elementary School turned in 50 entries. Pearce Brown won at the Branch and Zone levels. Again, we are hopeful that he will win at the provincial and national levels as well. Good luck, Pearce.

Ashcroft Secondary School turned in 10 entries. There were winners at the Branch level, but not at the Zones.

Thank you to the teachers and staff who helped the students with their projects. Thank you to all of the students for your entries, and we look forward to your participation again next year.
