RCMP are looking for the Penticton driver of a vehicle that crashed near Walachin on Jan. 4 - he’s been accused of assaulting one of his passengers after the crash.
At 2 am police attended the Chevron station in Cache Creek where an injured Penticton woman had been left by her travelling companions. The woman was one of four adults travelling from Penticton to Fort St. John, who’s vehicle had just crashed somewhere between Kamloops and Cache Creek. A passing motorist picked up her and her three male co-travellers and drove into Cache Creek where the woman was left behind. The three males left with their rescuer to continue north.
The vehicle was located off the highway near Juniper Beach. The woman’s cell phone and purse were found near Savona where they had been thrown out of the vehicle by one of the men.
She said the driver of the vehicle later blamed her for the crash and kicked and beat her while she tried to climb up the bank and away from the wreck. Video surveillance at the Chevron showed her with a male whom she identified as the driver. A warrant has been issued for his arrest, and the matter is still under investigation.
The woman was taken to Ashcroft hospital for treatment of serious head injuries.
