February 7, 1921 - December 30, 2020
We are sad to announce, but we are grateful for the long and healthy life our mother, grandmother, great and great-great grandmother and teacher lived. Mum passed away peacefully in Kamloops on December 30th, just short of her 100th birthday.
Joyce was born in Hedley, BC and raised in the Lower Mainland. She arrived at Jesmond in 1941 to be the school teacher at Big Bar School, this is where she met and married Pete Coldwell.
She taught for a few years and then took time to raise her family of 8 children. In 1968 Joyce returned to teaching at Big Bar's one-room school where she taught two of her own kids and a grandchild. She retired in 1981.
In 1992 Joyce moved from the ranch at Jesmond to Ashcroft when Pete became ill. Dad passed away in 1993. A fews years after that she connected with an old friend from high school and married Charles Freeman in 1996. They lived together in Sorrento until his passing. In the fall of 2017 Joyce moved into Chartwell's Ridgepointe Seniors' Residence in Kamloops where she resided until her passing.
In addition to her two husbands, Joyce was pre-decreased by three of her children; Fred, Betty and David, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She is survived by daughters; Louise (Merv), Jo-Anne (Greg) and sons Charles (Pat), Jim (Rodina) Ray (Sherri) and daughter-in-laws Joanne and Maryann.
Joyce had 23 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren. Joyce had many good friends that she made in Ashcroft through her church and the seniors center and also from her residence in Kamloops.
The family would like to make a special thank you to Management, Staff and Friends at Ridgepoint for providing a happy and safe home for her these past years. Thanks also to the kind and caring nurses and doctors on 5 & 6 North at RIH.
