Frederik Eduard Klynsoon passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, November 18, 2016 at the age of 82 years.

He will be sadly missed by Hendrika, his loving wife of 59 years and their son Kenneth (Kimberly) of Cranbrook as well as grandchildren Kyle & Sara (Cash) and numerous family members in The Netherlands and Australia.

He was a skilled craftsman, carpenter and ship joiner who worked for many years as a trade=sman in the area as well as on larger projects like the Merritt Highway, Revelstoke Dam and Rattlesnake Ridge.

In his younger years Fred was a talented speed skater. On February 3, 1954 he participated in the Elfstedentocht, which translates as the “Eleven cities tour” and is a grueling 200 km speed skating competition, the longest of its kind in the world, held in the province of Friesland in the north of the Netherlands.

Fred was an avid fisherman in the area and is the record holder of the largest Steelhead sea-going trout ever caught on the Thompson River. It weighed in at 32 lbs. and was caught in February 1974.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
