January 11, 1940- June 2, 2025 at the age of 85 years.
Helgard passed away peacefully with her family by her side on June 2nd, at the Shuswap Lake General Hospital.
Helgard was born in Berlin, Germany to Bernard and Hildegard Zimmermann and immigrated to Canada in 1959, where she married Harry Schwarzlaff later that year. Living first in 100 Mile House, Cache Creek and then building a house in Ashcroft where they raised their children. Helgard proudly remained in that house for 55 years. In September of 2024, she sold that beloved house and moved to Salmon Arm to be closer to family. Although she only lived in Salmon Arm a short time, she enjoyed the little city life and her new friends at Piccadilly Terrace.
Helgard is predeceased by her husband Harry, daughter Diana, her mother, father and two sisters
She will be missed by her son, Thomas Schwarzlaff, daughter, Rebecca (Becky) Friesen, son in law, Dean, grandchildren, Heidi (Dan), Daniel (Adele) and two great grandchildren, Violet and Dallas.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Shuswap General Hospital for their tremendous care and compassion.
A private family service was held at the Ashcroft Cemetery, arrangements made by Fischers Funeral Services.
