Katherine Mary (Kay) Klassen (nee Hunter), died peacefully in her home on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004.
Kay was born on October 14, 1923 at the Lady Minto Hospital in Ashcroft. Kay was predeceased by her parents Archibald and Iva Mae Hunter, her husband Walter, her brothers Archie, Michie and Hank and her sister Opal. Kay will be deeply missed by her daughter Jewel Hunter (Vec), her many nieces and nephews, her sisters in law Elsie, Doreen and Erna and her many friends.
Kay attended Maiden Creek Elementary School, riding 4 miles to school on horseback. After leaving high schooling Ashcroft, Kay left for the coast where she completed secretarial training. Her first job took her to Ottawa where she worked for the Ministry of Defence.
Kay married Walter in 1951 and excelled at home as both a wife and a mother. After the death of her husband in 1977, she worked as a home support worker, offering kindnesses and a positive outlook to her clients in the community.
Kay retired to Logan Lake and became an active member of the community. Kay volunteered with blue bird conservation, joined the local rock hounders, and spent many happy days exploring the Nicola valley in her pickup truck.
Kay was a patient, humble and kind person who made everyone feel special. she was a great listener and an inspired storyteller. Kay loved music and was a gifted musician who could play anything hand to her. She loved to paint and to draw, and had the most beautiful penmanship. She loved nature and found beauty all round her.
Her spirit lives on in everyone she touched, we will miss her.
A Memorial Service was held at the Logan Lake Senior’s Centre on Saturday, September 18, 2004. Should friends desire donations to the Logan Lake Senior’s Centre in memory of Kay would be appreciated.
