Kathleen (Kathy) Franks, 72, a long time resident of Ashcroft, passed away peacefully in her sleep, surrounded by family on Wednesday October 19, 2016 at the Ashcroft Hospital.

She is survived by her daughters, Sundae & Jenny and her son Ian and two grandchildren Nolan & Chelsea. Two brothers, Steven (Janice) of Ontario, and Lee (Margene) of Calgary. Predeceased by her mom Phyllis and dad Frank, twin brother Robin, and grandson Andre.

Kathy was born in London, England on July 26, 1944. Her family immigrated to Canada (Winnipeg, Man.) in 1950.

As a youngster she joined the Girl Guides and has remained active with Guiding Organization up until the time of her death. After graduation Kathy moved to Calgary where she joined the Canadian Signal Corp Melitia, and worked for the Bank of Montreal as a bookkeeper. (Also where she met Alan) Married in 1965 to first husband, divorced a few years later. Kathy married Alan in 1972 and they had 3 children, Sundae, Ian, Jenny.

In the summer of 1980 the family moved to Ashcroft, BC where Kathy became a proud active member of the Royal Canadian Legion, actively involved in the Girl Guides. She also worked as a motel manager in Cache Creek for over 20 years. In 2014 Kathy received her Life Membership Award from the Legion. Kathy also received the Gold Medal of Merit from the Girl Guides of Canada with over 40 years of service.

The family would like to thank the nurses & staff at Jackson House for their care and compassion that they gave to Kathy during her final days.

Celebration of life will be held on November 5, 2016 at the Ashcroft Legion Branch 113 from 1-3 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Kathy’s memory may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 113 or the Thompson-Nicola Area Girl Guides of Canada.
