LAWRENCE GEORGE WILEY

WILEY – LAWRENCE GEORGE – Passed away after a lengthy illness at Cottonwoods Extended Care in Kelowna at the age of 80.


Lawrence was born on January 28, 1926, son of a pioneering prairie family at Saltcoats, Saskatchewan, where he lived his early life.


As the years went by, he answered the call to adventure that brought his ancestors to this country and spent his retirement years in Ellison, B.C.,? working with horses and helping younger people to appreciate horses and the life he loved.


Lawrence is survived by: sister, Ora Strom of California; sons, Tom (Sandy) of Cut knife, SK and Pat (Tanya) of Chilliwack, BC; daughter, Linda Powell of Anchorage, Alaska; eighteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.

Lawrence left an impression on all who knew him and will be missed by his family and many friends who shared his love of horses and supported him in his final struggle.


The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the staff and administration of Cottonwoods Extended Care (Douglas Fir Unit) for the outstanding care provided to Lawrence during his last days.? A Memorial Service was held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 8, 2006 from the Ellison Heritage School,(4411 Old Vernon Rd, Kelowna).
