Mary Kathleen “Kathy” Marklund

October 16, 1932 — July 8, 2004

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear Mother, Wife, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother, Kathy Marklund. She passed away peacefully with her husband at her side at Royal Inland Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.

Kathy was born in Corning, Saskatchewan on October 16, 1932 to Jack and Nellie O’Connor. She met and married Basil McMurray in 1954 and had three children: Estelle, Wyatt, and Clayton. She came to BC in 1968 with her family settling in Ashcroft. Kathy, then, married Clifford Marklund in 1974 and moved to Cache Creek.

Kathy was predeceaced by her parents, Jack and Nellie O’Connor; brother, Orval O’Connor, and stepson, Andy Marklund. Kathy is survived by her husband Clifford, daughter Estelle of Ashcroft, son Wyatt (Cindy) of Cache Creek, and son Clayton of Fort McMurray, AB. Kathy is survived by grandchildren Tara (Garett), Dana (Dennielle), Christina (Percy), Christy, and Jonathon; great grandchildren Masin, Serina, Grayson, and Mackenzie.

She worked in the service industry in Cache Creek and Ashcroft for many years. The last 15 years were at the Chevron where she was known as “Grandma” to everyone. Kathy enjoyed playing bingo in the surrounding area and loved making crafts. She had a huge heart that touched many people, young and old. Her door was always open to those who needed a place to stay and/or eat. Kathy was always up for trying new things and having new adventures.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses at Royal Inland Hospital and to Dr. Theresa Rosen of Ashcroft.

A memorial service was held Friday, July 15, 2005 at 1:00pm at the Cache Creek Community Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Cancer Society or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
