Terrance Cumming

January 3, 2012

Cumming, Terrance Lloyd

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving husband and father, Terrance Lloyd Cumming, on January 3, 2012 at Ashcroft B.C.

Terry was born in Mission City, BC on November 1, 1929 to parents Llewellyn and Jessie Cumming.

Terry was a proud veteran and served in the Engineer Corps during the Korean War. His dreams of serving his country overseas were not realized, however, his aptitude for operating heavy equipment allowed him to serve Canada in the war effort. He was dispatched north in 1949 and spent several years in the Yukon constructing bridges on the new Alaska highway. This time in the Armed Forces led him into a fulfilling and rewarding career in the heavy and road construction industry. Whether it was operating a finish grader or hoisting materials with a crane it was always important to Terry to do things the right way. In 1953 Terry joined the Operating Engineers Union, Local 115, remaining a proud member for the rest of his life.

After retiring in 1993, Terry was able to turn his attention to his other passions, including fine carpentry, fly fishing and traveling in the great outdoors. Terry will be remembered by his family for his ability to repair and build almost anything that he put his mind to.

Always at his side was his loving and devoted wife, Ida, whom he married in 1951 on New Year’s Eve in Ashcroft, BC.

Terry is survived by his wife of sixty years Ida; son Dan and wife Kathy; daughter Judy and husband George Dougherty; son Rory; daughter Teri and husband Mark Paterson; daughter Millie and husband Pat Porada. Terry is also survived by his older brother Llew and younger brother Robert and wife Noreen.

His memory lives on in the hearts of his nine grandchildren: Rory and wife Day Cumming; Jenny and husband Wade Kellington; Charity and husband Rob Yeager; George and wife Christina Dougherty. Brandon Cumming, Jordon Cumming, Chrissy Cumming and their mother Brenda. Cole Paterson and Larah Paterson.

Terry also leaves nine great-grandchildren: Sydney, Braydon, Emily, Garrett, Isaac, Rory, Josie, Siera and Quinn.

Terry was predeceased by his father Llew, mother Jessie, brother Gerry and grandson Clint Cumming.

Dad was a man of integrity, honesty and good character and will be missed by all whom he touched with his wisdom and his sense of fairness.

The Cumming family would like to thank the nurses, doctors and staff of Ashcroft Hospital for their compassion, caring, and heartfelt assistance during his short stay.

A family gathering to celebrate dad’s life will be held at a later date.
