William (Bill) Hugh WALKEM

Walkem -William (Bill) Hugh. Born December 25, 1913, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2004.


He will be lovingly remembered by his sister Christina Edith Helen Zust, daughter Jan (Gordon) Prince, grandchildren: Gordon Hugh, Charlie, Chelsea and Haley, his companion Dolly Barber and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.


Bill worked as a commercial fisherman and miner during WWII. He was a long time employee of the CN Railway and retired in the 1970’s. He also worked for several years in the logging industry. He was also active in the early years of the National Indian Brotherhood where he pushed hard for recognition of aboriginal rights.


A devoted father, grandfather, uncle and friend his warm smile and stories will be dearly missed. Funeral services were held on December 14, 2004 in the Chief Whistemnitsa Centre, Spences Bridge, BC. Burial followed at the Cooks Ferry Indian Band Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please make donations to a favorite charity or to the Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation.
