Government inaction from MLA, province

A reader writes to ask where government is when there is no provincial election looming.

Dear Editor,

Open Letter to Jackie Tegart, MLA Fraser-Nicola

Your announcements regarding road improvements and repairs in the latest issue of our local paper come as welcome news.

I do take issue with your reference to “armchair engineers who think they know better”. This comment becomes the “default” of many politicians and bureaucrats who have become overly defensive when challenged with rationale and queries they prefer to avoid. I liken it to “vocal negative minority”. Possibly you have heard that moniker referenced here in Lillooet. It is more appropriate to seek out and engage these people with their ideas, concerns, and questions. In my experience I have found it more beneficial to work with a group than insulting them.

Many of us are sensitive in Lillooet. We have been consistently overlooked and disparaged by not only the vast majority of our local politicians, but also by you and the rest of the provincial politicians and bureaucrats. I say this with confidence and direct experience through issues that have plagued our community for the past 10 years.

Good of you to now give attention to roads at this time and shovel out cash for votes. Where were you when you were truly needed? I am hopeful that people are aware of your, and the present government’s, inactions so that careful thought is given before casting votes. You are not getting mine.

Peter Busse
