Dear Editor

We would just like to express our deepest thanks to the people for their support with their donations for the Japan Earthquake/Tsunami Relief Fundraiser – very overwhelming!

We had the Community Potluck Fundraiser on March 24 (Thurs.) at the Ashcroft Community Hall for the victims of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan … we had about 150 people in attendance, tons of food, native dance performers, vocal performers and we were also lucky to have a person from Sendai Skype in. It was an event that left a great sense of community pride and togetherness – a great rural community gathering where people from all around Ashcroft came.

There were children who took the initiative and did a neighborhood bottle drive, high school students who donated money from their school dance, there were grandchildren who came with grandparents to experience giving to a cause – what a fabulous example of cultivating community leaders!

I would also like to thank the many people who called to volunteer their time in putting on the event and also to the Cadets who came to set up and tear down the tables and chairs. With your help and support we were able to raise $7,057.62 for the Red Cross Japan Earthquake/Tsunami Relief.

Thank you!
