For the last seven years, my BC United colleagues and I have watched with concern as British Columbians struggle under the NDP’s failed policies. We’ve highlighted ways in which they could make life better for people, yet they continue to stand by their new taxes, anti-prosperity policies, and the relentless rise in costs.

We’ve previously announced our plans to scrap the provincial fuel tax, make housing more affordable, and cancel David Eby’s planned carbon tax hikes, amongst others. Now BC United, led by Kevin Falcon, is unveiling our plan to fix the economy.

Our plan emphasizes fiscal responsibility. We will balance the budget within our first term and limit government spending increases to match inflation and population growth. This approach will allow us to support essential services without imposing further financial strain on taxpayers.

Job creation and economic growth are also central to our vision. By reducing bureaucratic red tape and ensuring quick permit approvals, we will attract investments in key sectors like LNG and mining. These measures will boost our economy and create high-quality jobs for British Columbians.

The NDP has prioritized extracting more from taxpayers over fostering growth. Since 2017, they have imposed 32 new or increased taxes, leaving many families just $200 away from being unable to pay their bills at the end of each month. BC United will take a different approach. We will significantly reduce the tax burden and pledge no new taxes, offering much-needed relief to our citizens.

In addition, we will protect health care and education while cutting wasteful spending and unnecessary bureaucracy. By doing so, we will restore fiscal discipline and set the stage for a robust economic recovery.

By restoring affordability and promoting economic growth, we can create a prosperous future for all British Columbians.

United, we will fix it.

Jackie Tegart is the BC United MLA for Fraser-Nicola.
