The always-popular entertainer Filetta Fish will be back at the Ashcroft and District Fall Fair on September 11.

“It’s coming along, and it’s going to sneak up on us before we know it.”

So says Jessica Clement, president of the Ashcroft and District Fall Fair Association, speaking about this year’s fair. The theme is “Come Veg Out”, and she hopes that the more than $2,000 in prizes for entries will encourage more people to submit entries, and bigger crowds to come out and enjoy all that the fair has to offer.

“We have 15 vendors so far, but there’s room for more,” she says, noting that the emphasis is on home-based businesses and home crafts. There will also be food vendors, including the Lions and Rotary, as well as Scooters ice cream.

The AMOOzing race is back, and will have stations around town where participants have to check in and perform different skill-testing tasks before returning to the Drylands Arena. It’s a fun opportunity for people to team up with friends or family members and challenge each other to see who can finish in the fastest time.

With more prizes for entries than ever before, Clement hopes that children and adults will submit their arts, crafts, photography, baking, preserves, and much more. There are special categories for children, but they are able to submit entries in the adult categories if there isn’t a junior one that fits.

Entries can be submitted from 3 to 7 p.m. on Friday, September 9 and between 9 a.m. and noon on Saturday, September 10. The cost is 50 cents for each adult entry and 25 cents for each children’s entry, and they can be accepted at the arena entrance on Bancroft.

Clement says that there will be entertainment throughout the day, with the always-popular Kamloops Old-time Fiddlers returning. Filetta Fish, who entertains children of all ages, will also be back with her colourful and fast-paced show that combines humour, juggling, sleight-of-hand, and audience participation.

New this year is Buck Wild, a country band from Kamloops that is quickly becoming one of the busiest performers on the west coast. They promise a fun and energetic set that will get people out of their seats and dancing.

Kamloops country band Buck Wild will be performing at this year's fall fair.

This year’s fair runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, September 11, and admission is free. At 4:30 there will be a live auction of many of the preserves, produce, and baking that have been submitted as entries, so anyone who wants to get some delicious home-produced goods should make sure they stay until the end.

Judges are wanted, as well as volunteers to help with the set-up, which starts on Tuesday, September 6. Anyone interested in volunteering should contact Clement at (250) 457-7128. Also keep an eye open for this year’s fall fair booklet, which details the different entry categories. It’s available at various locations around Ashcroft, including the Journal office and the Ashcroft Visitor Centre at the Heritage Park on Railway.
