Striking a balance: Several Clinton groups are urgently looking for volunteers

The fire department, the Health Auxiliary, and the South Cariboo Historical Museum Society could all use some additional hands.

Fire department needs members

The Clinton Volunteer Fire Department is looking for new members. This is a vital service to the community and through members retiring, relocating for jobs, sustaining injuries (not on fire department time), etc., their numbers are down.

Both men and women are welcome to come and see if this is something they would like to do; the department also accepts junior members. Drop by the fire hall before a regular Monday meeting and talk to the fire chief. They meet at 7 p.m. at the fire hall every Monday (except stat holidays).

Clinton Health Auxiliary

This is a group of people who work to raise funds for health-related items and events in Clinton, supporting health in Clinton and area. In the past they have purchased a TV for the Clinton fitness room, equipment for the Clinton Fire Rescue, numerous items for the Clinton Health and Wellness Centre, covered the chairs in the waiting room of the health centre, donated for equipment for Royal Inland Hospital, supplied bursaries for local students who are going on to a career in the health field, held wellness fairs and helped with the flu clinics, and more.

Many of the original volunteers are getting older and cutting back on their volunteering. If this group is to continue, new members are needed. The group meets once per month and holds two fundraisers per year: the annual yard sale in June and a bake sale in late November or early December.

The next meeting is on February 14 at 1:30 p.m. in the Clinton Health Centre meeting room. Everyone is welcome to come and check it out. This isn’t for women only; men are welcome too.

Future meetings will be held on the second Tuesday of the month at the same time and location (if enough people show up to keep the group going).

Museum AGM

The South Cariboo Historical Museum Society (Clinton Museum) will hold their annual general meeting on Wednesday, February 15 at 4 p.m. in the meeting room of the TNRD Library in Clinton. There will be a review of 2016 accomplishments and challenges, the election of president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer, and directors, and brainstorming for 2017 and beyond.

New members are welcome. There is a nominal annual membership fee. Regular monthly meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 4 p.m. at the museum.

Soccer registration

Forget about the snow. Forget about the cold. It’s time to start thinking about spring! A sure sign of this is soccer registration, which will be held in the David Stoddart School library on Thursday, February 16 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

In addition to registration, there will also be gear (socks, shin pads, shorts, and soccer balls) for sale. Get your kids off the couch: sign them up for soccer.
