Devastation in Cache Creek
It was with heavy hearts that the residents of Clinton and area learned of the flooding in Cache Creek and the disappearance of fire chief Clayton Cassidy. Our thoughts and prayers are with our neighbours to the south during this trying time. The stories of assistance from friends, neighbours, and strangers that are coming out of this are truly moving. It is amazing how small communities come together in times of need.
Foot clinic
A foot clinic will be held at the Seniors’ Centre at 217 Smith Avenue on May 12. Anyone wishing to attend to discuss foot health can book an appointment by calling Colleen Thom, RN CAFCN, at (250) 819-1632.
Museum opening
The museum in Clinton will open for the season on Thursday, May 18. They are always looking for photos of Clinton from any era that can be scanned and added to the archives. If you have any such photos, especially if you have the story that goes along with them, please consider sharing them with the museum. The photos will be scanned and returned to their owners.
The museum plans to be open from Wednesday through Sunday in May, June, and September, and open seven days a week during July and August. You are encouraged to drop by and see what the museum society has been working on.
PAC meeting
The next regular meeting of the Clinton School Parent Advisory Council will be held on Thursday, May 18 at 6:30 p.m. in the school library. Most meetings last from 30 minutes to an hour. Anyone needing child care in order to attend the meeting can let the PAC know and it will be arranged.
Clinton Annual Ball
This year marks the 150th Clinton Annual Ball. Tickets for this event sold out before the tickets to last year’s ball did. There were so many people wanting to attend this year that a larger venue would be required if all were to come.
Thanks to a generous donation from the Province of B.C., the ball was moved to the 47 Mile Sports Complex (Clinton Arena). The logistics of such a venue are staggering, but not impossible. The Clinton Annual Ball Committee members have been working tirelessly to transform a skating rink into an elegant ballroom. Meals will have to be cooked at the Clinton Memorial Hall and transported (and kept hot) from there to the arena.
Her Honour Lieutenant-Governor Judith Guichon will be in attendance again this year, as will MP Cathy McLeod, Liberal candidate Jackie Tegart, and several other dignitaries. The Hat Creek Ranch stagecoach will be available to transport the dignitaries to the venue.
Clinton parade
Hopefully you have started planning your entry to the Clinton Parade, which will take place on Saturday, May 27. The theme this year is “150 Years of Heritage” in honour of Canada’s sesquicentennial.
Ribbons will be awarded for first and second place in the following categories: Best Bike/4 Wheeler/Auto; Most Original Entry; Commercial; Best Costume; Best Out of Town; Equestrian; and Best in Theme.
Parade entries wishing to be judged should be in place on Cariboo Avenue (by David Stoddart School) by 10 a.m. All entries are asked to display who they are and where they are from.
